We bought ours used An X5 will obviously cost more to run than an equivalent BMW 5 Series estate but it shouldn’t be ruinously expensive. Road tax costs £305 a year for pre-facelift diesels and £280 for the X5 3.0 "Check engine oil level" Thanks for taking the time to reply. I actually checked the oil level both time the lite came on. Both times the level was very close to the "max" mark. I am looking for test information at the sending unit plug on the oil pan. ie: use of a VOM at the the plug.
