Obviously, the diesel engine doesn’t parallel the slap-happy enthusiasm of the GTI’s mill. Nor can it rev as high; the TDI redlines at 4500 rpm. But the oil burner’s punch is smoother and more linear than its petrol-powered equivalent. There’s no slingshot effect. You just woooooosh from 30 to 60 mph without an ounce of effort.
I'm particularly interested in the 1.9 105hp ones because I haven't heard good things about the 16v 2.0 TDI BKD, and the 8v 2.0 BMM I've heard is better but really hard to find for some reason in my area. My main question is, between the 3 different engine codes for the 1.9 105hp (BKC,BXE,BLS) - what are the differences, and which one would you
Why is a 1.9 TDI better than a 2.0 TDI? The 1.9 is slightly more economical, the 2.0 is quicker revving, smoother, faster, quieter. The 1.9 only has a 5 speed box though. The 2.0 doesn't pull quite as well from low revs (the 1.9 is like a tank) but is less peaky.

Although with its torque advantage the TDI has a great initial pick-up off the line, the turbo 2.0-liter gas engine in the GTI produces better horsepower than the lower-revving diesel.

#1 Hi, I was wondering if anybody could explain or outline the main differences between the 1.9tdi 2.0tdi on a manual transmission 55reg a3 Thank you Ash B Registered User Joined Jul 19, 2008 Messages 5,826 Reaction score 84 Points 48 Location Cardiff South Wales Sep 2, 2009 #2 1.9tdi 105bhp and 2.0tdi 140bhp.
Which is better, TSI or TDI? The TDI engine is a diesel engine that’s made by the Volkswagen Group. TDI stands for ā€˜Turbocharged Direct Injection.’ It’s engineered in a similar way to the
the 1.9pd (non bxe) are far more reliable than the 2.0tdi pd engine in the Passat. Oil pumps are the major issue on them with balancer shaft and hex drives wearing causing the pump to stop working thus starving the engine of oil which causes major damage. early 2.0tdi pd engines also had a chain driven pump but like the hex drives these give
In Edmunds performance testing, a manual-equipped 2011 Jetta SEL went from zero to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds -- a good time for a midsize sedan with this type of fuel economy. The Jetta TDI features a

I am less than convinced of the long term durability of a fuel pump lubricated in fuel (the PD pumps are oil lubricated) which develops pressures approaching 2 kBar. I went from a 2.0 TDI PD 140 to the CR TDI 143, as you say there is less 'percieved' shove but this is just because the engine is much more flexible - amazingly so. I've driven both A3 and A4 with the 2.0TDi and it is a peach. So much smoother and quieter than any 1.9 130 I've driven. It also doesn't have that big slab of torque coming in at 1900rpm instead it builds progressively all the way to 4k. Much more petrol-like than the 1.9.

The 2.0 TDI is a development of the 1.9 block, but had to be done because the 1.9 is a very slow revving engine and won't meet forthcoming regulations in super tuned format hence the slow disappearance of 1.9TDI 130/150 block cars.
